It's a shame - Artex Monkey's talent
would be wasted and misinterpreted by
anyone outside the Barnsley area. Which
is another great reason I love being a
Barnsley lass! The brains behind Artex
Monkey are so wrong its practically
bordering pure genius - which is wrong to
say but unfortunately true.

'He's like a modern day Frank Sidebottom'
states an onlooker. I can't remember
Frank Sidebottom ever being this clever
or nearly as entertaining!

Monkey masked bloke belts out 'Morngy
Get', the remake of 'Mardy Bum', which is
by far my favourite of tonight's set. How
could anyone mention Netto, Athersley and
Royston so much throughout the night and
still receive such a loud applaud?

People may think that Artex Monkey
doesn't take his music serious, is there
a law to say he should? There's a lot of
consideration and intelligence that's
gone into each remake - only the idiots
cant see it!

Genius!

Oi oi! Easily the most important
cultural event thats happened in Barnsley
since the miner's strike... I had some
stodgy garlic bread from a kebab house
near Barnsley bus station. Had a few cans
of beer and rolled up to The Arches in
good spirits. Great venue, a bit hot
inside like. Bar staff were lovely and
had nice tattoos. I enjoyed more cider
inside and then moved on to Artex's rider
by pretending to be his guitar tech (the
easiest job in the world). They had a big
screen with pictures of him up there,
which got me really excited. He finally
came on to a track by another local band
, 'The Abbleday Flowers'. Looking like
some sort of tarn demi-god the Artex
proceeded to play pretty much the whole
of his debut LP. Dark, menancing and fun.
If you haven't got the album yet then get
it! The guy is a star. Had some more
cider and went home.

Hi Artex, I really enjoyed the gig Friday
even though my mate Ben put a cheese and
onion crisp in my pint and the bouncer
wouldn't let me put one foot on the
pavement as we waited to see you in the
warm evening sun, Uncertain Romance was
pure genius, top nightout cheers Jon. PS
I hope you manage to get the buses sorted
in Royston.

I admit that I did put a crisp
in hatrack hangers pint but I assure you
they were ready salted and not cheese and
onion. Any self respecting crisp lover
will taste the difference after it's been
floating in your cider for five minutes.
Enjoyed the gig anyway!
